| What happened? |
Day 1: Our day started at Fisherman?s wharf walking around and observing the beautiful views. We walked to the end of the pier and took some great photos of the Golden Gate Bridge as well as Alcatraz. As we took a walk around Fort Mason, we found a wonderful community garden. Boaz and I saw all these magnificent flowers and vegetables. We spotted many beautiful butterflies and bees busy pollinating the vegetation. Buzzing by was a magnificent hummingbird. This was the first time I have actually heard one sing. Overhead a flock of wild parrots flew by. The sites, which were wonderful and at the same time beautiful were somehow reminiscent of Patricia?s designs. We walked back to the wharf and noticed the fog rolling in over the Golden Gate Bridge. All the while speculating what it would be like to drive over the bridge in the fog.
As we began our journey back to shopping at the wharf, my phone rang. It was ?M?. ?Steve where are you??. I answered that we were at Fisherman?s wharf. M stated ?GET over to Gump?s they have 2 exclusives, a Jolly Surprise with bees and another Winter Sage with Bees.? Boaz and I quickly strategized, what was the quickest way to Gump?s. Boaz said, ?Taxi? and off we went. Ten minutes later, we were standing in front of Gump?s. Two people in front of us, ;-) were purchasing 2 pieces from Tom. Boaz and I walked up and we made our purchase. The chase had begun and the thrill of the hunt was on. Boaz and I chatted with Tom a bit and had a great conversation about how long he had been working at Gump?s. We observed the employees placing ornaments out for the event. We had lunch at Armani and chit chatted about the day. We stopped back at Gump?s and peered through the window again, like 2 little kids looking into a candy shop. We probably left smudge prints. We then took a walk through Chinatown. I love those Foo Dog statues. We may need a pair for our garden. Inspired by Teddy & Harvey, and the Fort Mason community garden, we have a lot of work ahead of us. We headed back to the hotel to freshen up for the event.
At 6PM, we arrived in front of Gump?s. While chatting with all the attendees out in front of the Gump?s, I met Lois C. Lois is a long time collector friend and possibly someone I knew before any other collectors. In fact, we have never met until this event. We both were collecting Hallmark ornaments in the late 80?s. Yes I know, Hallmark?LOL. Keith & Jason joined us a short time later and the line began to form. We spent much time catching up. We entered the store and signed in. Patricia greeted and shook hands with everyone as they came through the door.
We were handed an order form for 2 Swing Times we could order for next year; a snowman face with scarf on a black background, and a blue chinoiserie. Both were absolutely wonderful designs. We proceeded to pick our numbers for the next day. Boaz happened to pick 38 and I followed with the number 47. The 2007 ornaments were on display again and we reviewed our choices. Gump?s had many wonderful treasures and it was easy to start filling up your baskets. The 4 event pieces were on display: Let?s Decorate Santa in red with lime green balls and Christmas icons, Tea Time Santa in black Chinoiserie (my top pick), an elegant chameleon Once Again, for James in black and silver, and Painterly Santa with red stars and red icons on a white background. The hors d?ourves were raw tuna on a thin cracker, polenta with Broccoli Rob and others. Boaz and Stosh chatted for a while. We also got to see Mike B., Mom (Pat) and Dad (Al). Also, Kathy V. was there with a friend. Patricia began picking the complimentary ornament winners. The big winner was David O. as he won a Paved Mini Redoute in brown with bees. Patricia said it was part of her personal collection. We all received the complimentary gift from the store and it was a Goodnight Henry in gold with Bees. His bee slippers are way too cute! It was a great beginning to another event. We ended the night having dinner with Patty and CW at an Italian restaurant, which burned down a couple of years earlier. Patty and I had the Pumpkin Ravioli?.yummy
Day 2: We got to the door at 10 AM and the line was forming in number order. We got 2 of our event ornaments each and on the second pass we were able to either order or take home the remaining event ornies. The sale people kept coming out of the back with goodies to fill in the missing spaces on the display. We also noticed that Mom (Mike?s mom) is starting to catch on to the ornament frenzy. Mike?s dad was already hooked from the year before. Mike told us his Dad joined him at an event for an ?intervention? and left as a collector?.LOL Mike?s parents were wonderful. The signing went quickly. The complimentary gift was an Artist brush with a Gump?s red handle. Patricia then began calling out the winners of the complimentary ornaments. Dad (Al) won a complimentary ornament of a mini Santa on a standing disk. It was done in blue with stars and constellations. CW won a wonderful Lighting the Tree in white with red and green plaid. And Boaz won a Sewing Time in gingerbread tan with mistletoe all over the back. It was gorgeous. Sue K won a black Let?s Decorate. I can?t believe I didn?t get to meet Sue. Keith won a fabulous ball light blue with a snowman and glittered snow on the bottom of the ornament. Sabrianna won a gorgeous Tea Time in red and white stripe with a Christmas tree on the front. All in all, another great event and the staff at Gump?s were very good at helping everyone get their ornaments packed up. Thank you to Gump?s for a perfect and well executed event. Patricia thanks for all of the wonderful surprises! |
